Once you have analyzed your playtest video and identified key moments, you can create clips or reels to share them with your team.

Video Clips

What are clips?

Clips are small segments of the playtest video that you find important.

How do I create clips?

Step 1 - Open the clip builder:

  • Option 1 - Use keyboard shortcut - c or press the 'Create clip' button in the video controls bar. This will create a clip starting from the current time in the video player.

  • Option 2 - Create an annotation and then click on “Create clip” in the annotation box.

Step 2 - Specify start and end times:

In the clip builder that opens, you can specify the start time and end time of the clip. The maximum length of a clip is 5 minutes. You can use the preview box on the left to ensure the clip starts and ends at the right time.

Step 3 (optional) - Add a title card:

You can also add a title card to the clip to add a text slide at the start of the clip with the text you specify in the text box. This title card is not added to the original playtest video.

Here is an example:

The Gardens Between. Brandon (00:19 - 00:51). Description: The player is intrigued byt the game because it has visuals and audio that appeal to him.

Step 4 - Save/Create the clip:

Press “Save for later” or “Create clip”

  • Save for later - Closes the clip builder and prepares the clip in the background while you continue annotating.

  • Create Clip - Begins processing the video immediately and once it is done you can download the clip from the same screen.

Step 5 - Download the clip:

If you haven’t already downloaded the clip or clicked on Save for later, you can click on the 3-dot menu in the annotation and click on “Download clip”.

How do I edit clips?

All clips are saved as annotations and you can spot them by the clip icon on the bottom right of the annotation.

You can edit the text in the title card or start and end time in the annotation to modify the clip. After you save your changes, you will see a loading icon next to the "Watch clip" link. When the loading icon disappears the clip is ready for download/viewing.

How do I share or view clips?

Click on the "Watch clip" link in the clip annotation to go to the clip viewing page. On that page you can:

  • Copy video link - this link can be shared with your colleagues and allows them to view the clip even if they do not have PlaytestCloud accounts

  • Create reel - Takes you to the reel builder for the playtest

  • Download - to download the clip

  • Video controls - All the video control options are available including playback speed, download screenshot etc.

How do I download multiple clips?

If you want to download multiple clips you can click on the “Download Clips” button at the top of the Annotations tab. You then get the option to select which clips you would like to download and even make new clips. You can specify the default length of the clip in case the annotation doesn't have an end time.

Once the download is ready a zip file will be downloaded with each individual clip inside.

Video Reels

What are reels?

Reels are compilation videos made up of clips from a playtest.

  • Example 1 - A video made up of clips of different players interacting with the power up system.

  • Example 2 - A compilation of all the positive things a player said about the game.

How do I make a reel?

Step 1 - Open the Reel builder:

After analyzing your playtest and creating clips of the moments you want to highlight, click on the “Create Reel” button in the playtest overview page.

Step 2 - Select clips:

In the first panel you will see all the clips you have created in the playtest. You can preview the clips and include them in the reel by clicking on the “Add” button.

If you do not see a clip you have created, click on the “Reload clips” button. This will refresh the list of clips that you can add to the reel. A small caveat here, clips that are still being processed will not show in the list. Wait until the clip is available for download before clicking on "Reload Clips".

Step 3 - Organize clips:

Once you have added all the clips you want to include, use the second panel to organize the selected clips. Simply drag and drop the clips into the order you want them in for the reel.

If you want to remove a clip from the reel simply click on the trash icon. Note this will only remove the clip from the reel.

Step 4: Export reel:

As the final step you can preview the entire reel or export the reel once everything is in place. The exported reel will be in the MP4 format.

Can I edit a reel after it is exported?

Yes! Click on “Reels and Drafts” to see the list of exported reels. Click on the pencil icon next to the reel you want to edit to load that reel in the edit state. You then have the option to overwrite the previously exported reel or create a new one.

How do I save a draft reel?

If you want to save the reel without exporting it simply click on the “Save Draft” button at the top of the screen next to the "Exports & Drafts" button. Clicking on the draft in the “Exports & Drafts” dropdown will load the draft so you can continue editing it.

How do I share or view reels?

On the reel builder page or from the playtest overview page, click on the play icon next to the reel name to go to the reel viewing page. On the reel viewing page, you can:

  • Copy video link - this link can be shared with your colleagues and allows them to view the reel even if they do not have PlaytestCloud accounts

  • Create reel - Takes you to the reel builder for the playtest

  • Download - to download the reel

  • Video controls - All the video control options are available, including playback speed, download screenshot etc.
