Adding a watermark to secure your playtest

Keep your unreleased game or figma prototype protected with a persistent watermark.

Written by Rohan Joseph

Watermarks let you add a visible overlay to your game/prototype as an added security feature during your playtest.

What playtest setups support watermarks

Watermarks are currently supported in all playtests conducted through PlaytestCloud's Secure Browser.

This includes:

  • Single session, Multi-session and Longitudinal playtests on all platforms - iOS, Android, and Windows

  • Concept tests (iOS and Android)

  • Moderated playtests

Watermarks are available in playtests with PlaytestCloud's player panel and also when using the Bring your own players (BYOP) option.

How to enable watermarks

When setting up your playtest, select HTML/Prototype > Secure browser as the browser type in the Upload your game section.

After you have submitted the URL, you will have the option to enable a watermark.

How it works

When you enable watermarks, every player sees a unique ID displayed across their screen while they interact with your game/prototype. Players cannot dismiss or hide the watermark. The ID will appear in the recordings you receive as well.

If content from a playtest is ever shared without permission, the unique ID lets us identify exactly which player it came from.

Frequently asked questions

Is the watermark visible to the player?

Yes. The watermark is visible to the player while they participate and will show in the playtest recording, just as the player saw it.

How do watermarks work in moderated playtests?

In Moderated playtest, players can access the secure browser only after the interviewer admits them to the moderated session and the player shares their screen with the interviewer.
When the screen share starts, the player is given the option to open the secure browser, which opens with the watermark already layered over the playtest material.

Are watermarks available with Bring Your Own Players (BYOP) playtests?

Yes. The unique ID we display will tied back to the email address you shared with us.
