In this article, we cover 2 questions:

How will players download your game before the playtest?

How a game is downloaded depends on the device and/or game type chosen for the playtest:

HMTL Games / Prototypes

  • If you chose the option HTML games/prototypes, no download is required for the player but instead they’ll be taken to the URL you provided in the secure or default browser after they started the playtest (see below section How will players get to your game during the playtest?).

Mobile

  • In the app before the player joins the playtest, there is a button taking them to the correct app store/test flight page or a page where they can download your APK and install your game.

Windows

  • For a Steam game: Within the app, before a player joins the playtest, they are presented with a button to install Steam (if necessary) and a separate 'Launch Game' button that takes them to the game.

  • If the game requires a Steam key, they’ll find a third button where they can access the key.

  • For games with a game folder/installer, in the app they will find a button taking them to a download page where they can start the download of the game.

How will players access your game during the playtest?

Accessing the game during the playtest has slight differences based on whether it is an unmoderated or moderated session:

Unmoderated session

Once they started the playtest, players will click on a button called “Go to playtest”. This button takes them automatically to the right place:

Moderated session

After they start screen sharing, players will have to click on the “Switch to game” button and the app will take them automatically to the right place:
