If you have a video clip such as a trailer or any other video footage from your game you want to get player feedback for, PlaytestCloud gives you two ways to do that.

If you want to get screen recordings of players watching the video, reacting to it in real time and after, you can show your video as part of a regular playtest. For this, see section "A) Testing videos within a playtest"

If you want quantitative feedback, meaning a lot of structured survey responses, you can show your video to players and then have them answer a survey about it. For this, see section "B) Testing videos with a survey".

Before you start: Your video needs to be available online

Before you can set up a playtest or a survey with a video, you need to upload it online. The most popular options are Youtube and Vimeo. Both offer the option to privately upload video files, so that only users with the link can access them.

For the rest of the article we will assume that you used Youtube to upload your video - how it works for Vimeo is very similar.

A) Testing videos within a playtest

This method will have you create a website playtest which points to the youtube page of the video, and then uses tasks to ask players questions that they need to answer after watching the video.

1. Create a new playtest

2. Select a game name

3. Select "Browser game", and pick the platform (iOS/Android) which you think is most appropriate for your target audience.
4. Paste the URL of the Youtube video into the "link field"

5. Select the amount of players you want to get feedback from
6. Select an appropriate minimum play time. It should be enough for players to watch the video fully and answer your questions. If in doubt, it’s better to go lower, as players are free to spend more time on the page. Usually, 5 minutes is a good starting point.

7. (Optionally) select your target audience

8. Select "Step-by-step playtest" and enter your question. A best practice is to use this form: "Answer verbally: <Question>"

9. (Optionally) set up a written survey that players answer after completing the recorded part of their playtest

That’s it! Place the order and you will get results back from PlaytestCloud as quickly as possible.

B) Testing videos with a survey

Use this method if you want to get written feedback from a larger sample size of players. You will not get video recordings but a CSV file of survey responses.

1. Create a new survey

2. Select a game name

3. Select the amount of players you want to get feedback from

4. (Optionally) select your target audience

5. On your Youtube video page, click "Share", then "Embed". Configure your embed code and the copy it into the PlaytestCloud survey description. Add an instruction like "Watch this video before answering the questions below" to let players know it is not optional.

6. Create the questions you want to ask about your video.

That’s it! Place the order and you will get results back from PlaytestCloud as quickly as possible.
